FAQS
Q — What’s the difference between a retreat and a residency?
A—While both take place on the island of Chios and offer immersive creative experiences, retreats are three-week group programs focused on collaboration, experimentation, and collective inspiration. Residencies, on the other hand, are one to six-week self-directed stays for artists seeking time and space to dive deeply into personal projects or research in a quieter, more reflective setting.
Q — Which experience is right for me?
A — If you’re looking to recharge creatively through community, workshops, and cultural excursions, a retreat may be the perfect fit. If you’re craving focused time to develop a specific project or explore new ideas independently, a residency might be more your pace. Still not sure? Feel free to reach out—we’re happy to help guide you.
Q — What does a Retreat schedule look like?
Each day includes a balance of structured group time and personal creative space. Here's a sample flow from a past resident.
Q — HOW DOES THE SELECTION PROCESS WORK?
A – We select residents who will fit well with the other residents and benefit from the experience. In general, you need to have an open mind, as there will be times when you will be working with others. Come with an expectation to have your practice and mind broadened, and to do so for others.
Q — What happens after I submit the application?
A — We thoroughly review all applications and respond via email within 5 days. Sometimes, a follow-up call may be requested before making a final decision. If so, this will be scheduled within 30 days of your submission.
Q — What does the residency fee cover?
A — The residency fee includes accommodation in a private room and full access to all areas of the mansion. This includes the use of the studio, including all tools and equipment. Residents can also access various materials like paints, brushes, canvases, sculpting clay, and basic crafting supplies. The fee also grants access to all shared spaces, including the kitchen, gardens, and recreational areas, fostering a creative and collaborative environment.
